Fichero Informativo de Vehículos Asegurados (FIVA)

Informative Records of Insured Vehicles (FIVA)

Aims of the FIVA

Within the framework of the Mandatory Third Party Liability Motor Insurance regulations, the Consorcio is entrusted with the management of the Informative Records of Insured Vehicles (FIVA), which has two purposes:

  • To supply the information required by people involved in an accident to ascertain, as quickly as possible, the insurance entity that covers the third party liability of all of the vehicles involved in said accident.
  • To facilitate the control of the obligation that all owners of motor vehicles that are habitually parked in Spain have to contract, and keep in force, an insurance policy that covers the drivers' third party liability, up to the limits and within the scope established in the mandatory insurance. This control will be carried out through collaboration between the Consorcio de Compensación de Seguros and the Directorate-General of Traffic, who may interchange the information that is contained in their computerised records as expressly envisaged by this cession agreement.
