Information for insurance companies

The Consorcio, attached to the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Enterprises, is a Public Business Entity inspired by the principle of compensation, aimed at covering the risks of the insurance policies that are determined in its Legal Status (1).

The Consorcio's capital is private and does not belong to the State and it is funded by its premiums and surcharges. As with any other insurance company, the Consorcio has the appropriate technical provisions; it maintains a solvency margin and it also has a special stabilisation reserve that is accumulative, which is necessary to cover the risks it takes on, to which all the positive results from its activities are assigned.

The Consorcio maintains the compulsory financial and accounting separation between the different activities that its specific legislation determines: general, agricultural, liquidation and credit.

The Consorcio is adapted to the compensation criteria as the main aspect within its collecting and compensating strategy, without making distinctions within the fields of geographical, economic or insurance types, with the exception of those mentioned in the previous paragraph.
