Consorcio de Compensación de Seguros (CCS) is the insurer for personal injuries caused by forest fires, and anyone injured while participating in forest firefighting efforts is covered by a policy taken out by the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge. In other words, CCS covers personal injury to those who collaborate in extinguishing these fires, while private insurers are responsible for covering all other damages (property or personal) if they have an insurance contract that covers this risk. This insurance is compatible with any other private insurance or any aids provided by public administrations.
In the event of a personal accident during the extinguishing of a forest fire, the injured party, the beneficiary, representative or heir, in the event of death, must file a claim for compensation to CCS as soon as possible.
