Consorcio is the insurer of last resource of compulsory motor car third-party liability insurance for vehicles rejected by the market, as well as for fleets of any public body that requesting this cover. It is also the guarantee fund for damages caused by unknown, uninsured or stolen vehicles.
What does the Compulsory Insurance not cover?
This insurance DOES NOT COVER THE INJURIES THAT THE DRIVER MIGHT SUFFER (article 5.1 of the Law on Civil Liability and Insurance for Motor Vehicles).
The insurance DOES NOT COVER THE MATERIAL DAMAGES CAUSED TO THE OWN VEHICLE OR TO THE ITEMS TRANSPORTED IN IT, NOR THE THEFT OF THE VEHICLE (article 5.2 of the abovementioned Law).
As it must be limited by Law to the cover for civil liability, this insurance DOES NOT INCLUDE other covers, such as CLAIM FOR DAMAGES, LEGAL DEFENCE, TRAVEL ASSISTANCE, etc.
